Akiyoshi
KITAOKA, born in Japan in 1961 is an Associate Professor
of Psychology at the Department of Psychology, College of
Letters, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan. He received
B.Sc. from the Department of Biology, University of Tsukuba,
Tsukuba, Japan in 1984, and received Ph.D. (Doctor of Education)
from the Institute of Psychology, University of Tsukuba in
1991. He has studied visual illusion extensively including
geometrical illusions, lightness illusions, color illusions,
motion illusions and so on. Before starting to investigate
visual illusions, he had studied animal psychology, specializing
in various subjects such as burrowing behavior in rats at
the University of Tsukuba, and neurophysiology on inferotemporal
cortex of monkeys at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for
Neuroscience. He has constantly kept updating the collection
of his illusion designs on his website since 2002. |
